چکیده

Suinizary. A nunibl)er of pteridfines were examined( for activity in promotinig photop)hosphorylation in broken spinach chlioroplasts anid in stimlulating cvtochrome c photooxidation ill sonicated chloroplasts. Correlation was fouind between activities for the 2 reactions. Photophosphorylation promoted by pteridines was inhibited by DCMU and by anaerobic conditiolns. It is concluded that pteridines mlay stimulate photophosphorylatioIn by linkiinig photosystem 1 with molecular oxygen and thereby alloxving noncyclic electron flow. Aromatic pteridiiies in both the 2.4-dihidroxyan(d 2-amliuo-4-hydroxy-series were active; substitution at the 6 (or 7) position was a necessary but not sufficient condition for activity in b-oth reactions. Reducing agents incr-eased photophosphorylation activity of aromatic pteridines and an oxidant inicreased activity of a tetrahydropteridine. It is postulated that pteridines are imiost active in their seniiiquinone or uinstable (lihvdro fornms.

Studies on the Inhibitory Nature of Pteridines* by v. M. Doctor

Mallette and coworkers (1) were the first to synthesize 2,4-diaminopteridine and four derivatives of this type, namely the 6,7-dimethyl, diphenyl, phenanthro, and acenaphtho compounds. Daniel et al. (2) and Daniel and Norris (3) reported strong inhibitory properties of these compounds for the growth of Streptococcus jaecalis and Lactobacdlus case-i which require preformed pteroylglutamic acid (...

Photocatalytic oxidation of an organophosphorus simulant of chemical warfare agent by modified TiO2 nanophotocatalysts

TiO2 nanoparticles, as a photocatalyst for oxidation of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) as an organophosphorus simulant of chemical warfare agent, were prepared by using sol-gel method. The prepared nanoparticles were then modified with transition metals in order to decrease the electron-hole recombination and increase the photocatalytic activity. Transition metal ions including Pt...

Some aspects of pteridine biosynthesis in amphibians.

SOME ASPECTS OP PTERIDINE BIOSYNTHESIS IN AMPHIBIANS by Hamilton Lee Stackhouse Bright fluorescing unconjugated pteridines have been extracted from amphibians; yet the biological function of these compounds in vertebrates is not completely understood. There is some evidence, indicating that they can act as pigments, co-factors, and growthpromoting substances. Pteridine biosynthesis is unknown b...

Pteridines and Gene Homologies in the Eye Color Mutants of DROSOPHILA HYDEI and DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER.

LUORESCENT pteridine compounds have been identified in Drosophila by HADORN and MITCHELL ( 195 1 ) , and FORREST and MITCHELL (1 954a,b, 1955). Variation in the accumulation of the various pteridines from species to species in the genus Drosophila has been discussed by RASMUSSEN and SCOSSIROLLI (1954), RASMUSSEN (1954, 1955), HUBBY and THROCKMORTON ( 1960), and THROCKMORTON ( 1962). HUBBY and T...

Fluorescence Measurements on the Photooxidation of Poly(ethyleneterephthalate) Films and a Photoselective Effect

Photooxidation of PET fibres or films creates fluorescent by-products which are separated in wavelength from the intrinsic fluorescence o f PET. An experimental technique is described which allows the study of the dependence of photooxidation on wavelength by the fluorescence of only a single specimen. Furthermore, using polarized fluorescence, the conservation of photoselected orientation can ...
